The Old Saloon

Emigrant, MT

The story

The Old Saloon opened in 1902 beside the rail depot serving Paradise Valley travelers. After a fire, Abe Armstrong rebuilt it in 1907 and had the back bar shipped from St. Louis by steamboat. Prohibition closed it in 1920; Armstrong’s son Elmer reopened it in 1962. The outdoor stage came with a 2016 restoration.
