The Bowery
Myrtle Beach, SC
The story
In 1973, the band that became Alabama moved from Fort Payne to Myrtle Beach and took the house gig at The Bowery. They played six nights a week for tips over seven summers, building their harmonies and regional following. Those 1973–1980 years later appeared in songs including “Tar Top” and “Dancin’, Shaggin’ on the Boulevard.”
Honky Tonks of America founder Matthew Wayne performs at The Bowery.
