3210 Old Hernando Rd, Memphis, TN 38116
The story
The historical marker at 3210 Old Hernando Road records Hernando's Hide-A-Way as a rockabilly club for more than fifty years. Elvis Presley played here in 1953. Joe Arnold & The Memphis Four and Billy Adams & The Nuggets held down house-band duty through the 1960s and 1970s, often joined by Charlie Rich and Duck Dunn. Jerry Lee Lewis turned up so often he called the club his office. It closed in 2006; the marker credits Dale Watson and Celine Lee with reopening it in 2018. Rockabilly, country and Memphis roots share the calendar — this is not a country-only room. No founding year is established.
