Before Handlebar J, this was Wild Bill’s, a desert honky-tonk where a young Waylon Jennings regularly performed. The later name joined owner George Lautz’s mustache with his wife Joanie’s initial. Brick and Gwen Herndon took over in 1975; their sons formed the Herndon Brothers Band here in 1986.
