8405 US Highway 42, Florence, KY 41042
The story
Bobby Mackey opened his namesake honky tonk in Wilder, Kentucky, in 1978. George Jones and Merle Haggard were among the country artists who performed there. The original venue also became known for ghost tours and paranormal folklore; the supernatural claims are not established history. The business moved temporarily to Florence in March 2024, and the former Wilder building was demolished that December. Construction on a replacement at 44 Licking Pike is underway. The photograph shows the former Wilder building in 2016, not the current Florence venue.
